Mary V. Echols died peacefully on Thursday, August 15, 2013. She was born in Michigan and received degrees from the University of Michigan and the University of Alabama. Mary served in the Women's Army Corps during World War II and was subsequently employed as a teacher and librarian. She moved to Waynesboro, in 1982, and was active in her church and many civic organizations, most notably the D.A.R. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Edward; and her brother, John Hathaway. She is survived by her son, Rob; her sister, Elizabeth; her dear friends and several nieces and nephews. Mary lived her life on her terms right to the end, and all who knew her were touched by her positive attitude. A celebration of Mary's life will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, September 1, 2013, at First Church - Christ Scientist, 1011 Northgate Ave., Waynesboro, VA 22980.
