Elizabeth returned home after graduating from Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park, California with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She was a licensed registered professional nurse in California, Guam, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands but chose to return home to help her community in Rota, Tinian, Saipan, and the Northern Islands. In addition to being a Registered Nurse, she was also a certified Women’s Nurse Practitioner from UCLA Harbor Medical Center. Elizabeth served her community through the various public health programs such as Women’s Health, Immunization, Pre Natal Care, Maternal and Child Health (MCH) and various outreach programs associated with keeping the community healthy and prevention of disease. After retiring from government service, Liz was recruited by a home health agency from California to manage and operate the first home health agency in Saipan. Because of the shortage of licensed professional nurses, she returned to government service to help the only acute care hospital in the CNMI manage the Hemodialysis service and initiate a Peritoneal Dialysis program. After five years of helping manage the dialysis service and peritoneal dialysis program, she decided to pursue her passion of teaching her profession. She developed and trained future Hemodialysis Technicians for the Rota, Tinian, and Saipan. She was also recruited by a private company to provide nursing instruction for their Licensed Practical Nurse program. She oversaw the successful completion of at least three classes that graduated from the program. She decided to retire in 2010 from teaching and nursing to join her husband relocate to Guam and help him care for his mother.
Elizabeth is the type of person that places others before self. As evidenced by her desire to come back and help her community and inspire the young people to join her in her chosen profession. She was always the optimist! She touched the lives of many people both young and old.
Raising different types of orchids, different types of ginger flower, Birds of Paradise, and planting in general were her passion. She was very patient with her plants. Liz would nurture them with plant food, water irrigation, and love. It also helps that she can almost grow anything she planted.
With all the events that happened in her life, pursuing her education, nursing care, and teaching and helping others in need, she always took care of her family. In her life, they were always FIRST. She will be truly missed by her husband, children, and grandchildren.
