She leaves to mourn her children Patty (Jeff), Darren (Sheri), Clayton(Kathy), Joe (Ticha), our father Wayne, brother Edward, sisters Carol(Larry), Gwen, Susan (Nick), brother in law Lloyd, step sisters Joyce(Otto), Gail(Larry) and step brothers Ed (Maria) and Jim(Helen). "Gram" as she was lovingly called leaves 13 grandchildren to mourn her passing; Jaime (Whitney) Matthew, and Diana (Justin); Darcy and Alana; Brendan, Jonnie, and Kaylie; Austin, Kira, Nicky, Alexis and Cassie. Geraldine also leaves to mourn numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and a few great-great nieces and nephews all of which she treated as her own, also many many relatives, extended family and friends whom were always welcomed with open heart and home.
Geraldine was born in Winnipeg MB on April 13, 1945. At an early age her family moved to Kenora when she attended North Ward School and Lakewood High School. She married Wayne on December 1, 1962. She worked for 3 years planting trees for MNR, and a couple years with Touch of Leisure. She was a proud member of The Women of the Moose Lodge. For many years she canvassed the Norman area for the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Diabetes Association and was a supporter of the Dragon Tamers.
Geraldine was a homemaker that wore many hats included mother, cheerleader, taxi driver, nanny and counsellor. She always had as open heart and home and always did what she could to help anyone. Everyone including our childhood friends, our grandchildren's friends, any relatives and extended families knew they were always welcome and had a place to go if needed or an ear to listen. Mom had the biggest heart and shoulders for the little woman she was. She was always there to listen, help and sometimes when needed gave that stern direction. Mom proudly displayed her family accomplishments and her home reflected that by collections of numerous trophies, medals, coat buttons, and family pictures. She could easily name anyone children's pictures and when and where
any of these prized possessions came from. She rarely missed a hockey game, school activity wedding or any other family event. Mom and Aunty Marie were well known hockey cheerleaders and though they are no longer with us and they say Angels are silent we will still hear their boisterous cheers and feel them there with us.
Mom loved her gardens and grandchildren helping her plant flowers and fill bird feeders. She loved birdwatching especially her favourite the Hummingbirds which showed through her gardens and home with numerous hummingbirds trinkets. She most enjoyed outdoor family time whether it was camping, picnicking, and her favourite "Happy Birthday Everybody" get to togethers at Little Gordon, Pickerel Lake and Rushing River. She always encouraged "family first".
We invite all to join our family for a Celebration of Life in her honour at the NeeChee Friendship Centre on Railway Street on September 7, 2013 at 1 pm. We will not be having a memory signing book however we will have a memory book and ask for those attending to bring any pictures and a written memory of her to add and share in our book. In lieu of flowers please honour her with a donation to her favourite charities Heart and Stroke Foundation, Diabetes Association or Dragon Tamers.
