Edna Vergie McNair Arnold passed away peacefully on Aug. 31, 2013. Edna was born August 17, 1916. She lived all her life in Myrtle Grove. Edna is preceded in death by her husband Gilbert Arnold whom she married in 1936, parents John R. McNair and Pearl Helton McNair; sisters, Modeste Bryant (Arthur), Myrtle Goldback (PD), Minnie Reilly (BJ), Louise Holloway (David); brothers, Harris McNair (Alma), Clinton McNair.
Edna was a lifetime member of Union Hill Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and involved in many other activities at the church. Edna was a member f the Eastern Star Chapter 253 for years. In the 1940s, Edna was employed at JJ Newberry in downtown Pensacola. She had many fond memories working there. Edna leaves behind a legacy of being a caregiver to all her family members, her good “country cookin” and her ever so famous lemon supreme pound cakes and special crispy cornbread.
Edna is survived by one brother, Ralph C. McNair. She also had numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and great, great nieces and nephews! She was an icon in our family and we will sorely miss our amazing sweet aunt and sister.
Visitation will be on Thursday, Sep. 5, 2013 from noon until 2:00 pm at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. The funeral will begin at 2:00 pm at the funeral home also and burial will follow at Union Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
