Bill Hayes, 87, of Texarkana, TX passed away Sunday, September 1, 2013 in a local hospital. He was born on April 29, 1926 in Texarkana, TX. Mr. Hayes was a lifetime member of the Texarkana First Church of the Nazarene, was the owner of Bill Hayes Homes, and was a veteran of the United States Army serving in WWII in the Philippine Liberation. He received the Bronze Service Star award and the Asiatic Pacific campaign medal.Bill was a real estate broker, Realtor and home builder in Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma. Bill was a past president of the Texarkana Home Builders Association and he and his dad, Acie Hayes were owners of Central Tile and Marble Company and also a charter member of the Oaklawn Rotary Club and National Home Builders Association.
He loved to hunt in Colorado and was a member of the Bear Mountain Club and he also loved golf and fly fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents Acie and Velma Hayes and sister Wanda Hayes Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Hayes, two daughters and sons-in-law, Jan and Rick Roeder of California, Debbie and Jim Atkinson of California, and Rick Hayes whom he called a son, two grandsons, two great-grandsons, a number of nieces and nephews and special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jack and Joyce Young.
Graveside service will be 4pm Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at Chapelwood Memorial Gardens with Rev. Chris Sutherland officiating. Burial will be under the direction of East Funeral Home-Moores Lane.
Family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30pm Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at East Funeral Home-Moores Lane.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Texarkana First Church of the Nazarene Church building fund.
