Edward Domanski, 95, of Fort Frances, ON passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2013. Eddie was born in Fort Frances on August 26, 1918. He was predeceased by his parents, Sophie (Toffan) and Joseph Domanski, his brother Carl and his son Gary. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Claudia (LaFrance), daughter-in-law Georgianne and granddaughter Andrea. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Vi and her children Julie, Jamie and Karen.
Eddie was raised in Fort Frances and excelled in sports, especially speed skating, running and basketball. He worked in the creamery business with his father and brother throughout the 1930s. Again with his brother and father, Eddie bought the Lakeland Hotel in Thunder Bay and eventually returned to Fort Frances, where they bought the Rainy Lake Hotel. After selling the hotel, Eddie joined Canada Customs until he retired in 1981. Eddie attended St. Mary’s Parish and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Rotary Club and the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce. He loved working on his yard and lawn and meeting with friends at the Sister Kennedy Centre.
A memorial mass will be held on Friday, September 6, 2013 at 3 p.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances with Father Victor DeGagne officiating. Cremation has taken place with inurnment in the J.A. Mathieu Columbarium. The honourary pallbearers will be Eddie’s family and friends.
