Robert V. Godbold, 78, of Cary died September 5, 2013. “Bob”, son of Frank and Lola Godbold, loving husband of Jane Gray Godbold, passed away at the Laurels of Forest Glenn Nursing Home in Garner. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jane; sister, Edna Ruth Bowen; son, Larry (Janet); and daughter, Susan Williams (Phil). He is also survived by six grandchildren, Betsy Ray (Mike), Katie Allen (Dave), Lee Godbold, Vance Williams (fiancé Meredith Kelly), Blair Williams, and Chris Williams, as well as one great grandchild, Olivia Ray.
Godbold was a graduate of Cary High School in 1952 and served on the Cary Volunteer Fire Department for twenty years. He owned Godbold Quality Services and was a general contractor, building many homes throughout the Triangle area. Godbold proudly served on the Cary Town Council for eighteen years. To commemorate his service on the council, Robert V. Godbold Park on Maynard Road was dedicated in his honor. He is a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church in Cary, and his grandfather was a charter member of the church. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, September 9, 2013 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary.
A funeral service will be held 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at First United Methodist Church, 117 S. Academy Street, Cary. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Cary.
