She was born in Pawtucket, RI on December 24, 1920 the daughter of Alfred J. and Olivine (Gagner) Labrie.
She grew up in Pawtucket, RI and attended Pawtucket schools. She received a bachelor’s in education degree from Rhode Island College and a Masters in Library Science from Boston College. She taught Elementary school and was the librarian at Tolman High School in Pawtucket, RI for many years until her retirement, twenty four years ago. She moved to Keene, New Hampshire where she shared a home with her sister Eleanor.
Muriel was very active and was a member of the American Academy of University Women, the American-French Genealogical Society, the Rhode Island AFT Retirees, the Rhode Island Retired Teachers Association, the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW, the New Hampshire Retired Educators Association, and the American Library Association. She was a volunteer at the Cheshire Medical Center and St. Joseph Regional School in Keene, NH. She was a proud member of the America Automobile Association for seventy one years. She was a member of the Parish of the Holy Spirit in Keene and attended St. Bernard’s Church.
Survivors include several cousins. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister Eleanor Labrie.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Bernard’s Church, 185 Main Street, Keene, NH on Monday, September 9, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at the Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket, RI on Tuesday September 10, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. There are no visiting hours. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the St. Joseph Regional School Library, 92 Wilson Street, Keene, NH 03431 or to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, c/o Parish of the Holy Spirit, 161 Main Street, Keene.
