Edwin "Winn" Earnhardt Flythe III, of Raleigh passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 13, 2013. He was born on October 7, 1974, in Raleigh, North Carolina. Winn was a graduate of Needham B. Broughton High School, and attended Louisburg College and UNC Wilmington.
Following in the footsteps of his grandfather and father, Winn joined the family business, Flythe Cyclery, where he utilized his many talents and introduced innovative ideas. Winn's interests and talents were also evident in home renovations, furniture making, landscape design, and automotive restoration.
Winn is preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin E. Flythe of Raleigh, N.C and Mr. and Mrs. James O. Parker of Farmville, Va.
He is survived by his loving parents Mr. and Mrs. Edwin E. "Skip and Tootie " Flythe of Raleigh; and his brother, Todd Parker Flythe of Ashburn, Va. Other survivors include his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Berryman Fitzhugh, and his cousins, Trey Fitzhugh and wife Amy, Chris Fitzhugh and wife Kathy, and Walt Lewis. Winn also leaves behind his loyal and beloved Golden Retriever, Haley.
Winn was a gentle soul with a kind heart, and a quick sense of humor. He treasured his family and friends of all ages, and he will be greatly missed.
A memorial service to honor Winn’s life will be held Tuesday, Sept. 17th at 2:00 pm at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church, 2209 Fairview Rd. Raleigh. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 – 2:00pm in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA of Wake County, 200 Petfinder Lane Raleigh, NC 27603, or to the charity of one's choice.
