George grew up and spent almost his entire life in New Bern. He was a graduate of New Bern High School and the National College of Chiropractic in Chicago.
George was a Mason and member of the Doric Lodge since 1945, a Shriner, and played in the Shriner and Community bands. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge and American Legion Post #24. He was both retired from civil service after a 30 year career at MCAS Cherry Point and over 60 years as a chiropractor. He was an original member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
George served his country in WWII in the Army Air Corps. In addition to helping his chiropractic patients, he also enjoyed music, travel, reading, sailing and dancing.
George is preceded in death by his parents, Mack and Dorothy Horner, and a brother Dr. Thomas M. Horner.
George is survived by his wife Arneda, a son Tom Horner (Lisa) of Kinston, NC, a daughter Vicky Gray (John) of Lexington, NC, and grandchildren, Alyssa Horner, Thomas Horner, John Elliott and Samuel Gray
A memorial service will be held at 3 pm Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at Trinity United Methodist Church in New Bern. Visitation with the family will immediately follow the service
