1925 – 2013
Gladys Rutan Daw was born in DeFuniak Springs, FL on June 8, 1925. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 18, 2013.
Gladys was a renaissance woman. As a genealogist, she researched and published books on her family history, completed paid research for others, and served both the West Florida and Georgia Genealogical & History Societies. As an adventurer, she traveled with her late husband, Ray Daw, all over the United States, Canada, and Europe. As an artist, she painted dozens of landscape scenes from Pensacola to Newfoundland. As a do-it-yourselfer, she was fiercely independent and could outpace most men of today.
Gladys had a deep faith in God throughout her life. She was a member of Gadsden Street United Methodist for many years. Over this time, she and her husband led youth groups, taught Sunday school classes, cared for the needy, and she even served as the church secretary.
Gladys was predeceased by her loving husband of 40 years, Ray Kedrick Daw. She was also predeceased by her sons Ray Edward Daw and Paul Allen Daw. Gladys is survived by her grandson Ray Kedrick Daw II and his wife Sara McWhorter Daw, and three great grandchildren, Ray Andrew Daw, William Patrick Daw, and Madeline Mills Daw.
A funeral service celebrating her life will be held Friday, September 27 at 10:00 AM at Gadsden Street United Methodist Church in Pensacola, FL, followed by interment at Bayview Memorial Park.
