Dr. Fred Alexander Alfele of Atlantis, Florida died on Thursday, September 26, 2013 in Bethesda Hospital in Boynton Beach of natural causes. Born in Dayton, Ohio July 24, 1934 to Fred and Frances Alfele, he served in the US Navy and was an oral surgeon educated at Ohio State University, Emory University School of Dentistry, Tufts University and Boston City Hospital.
Dr. Alfele practiced oral surgery in Lake Worth for 34 years during which time he served as Chief of Staff at Palm Beach Regional Hospital, chief of various departments for JFK Medical Center, instructor at Palm Beach Community College and member of numerous professional societies and academic appointments. Dr. Alfele dedicated himself to community service as a member and past President of Rotary Club of Lake Worth and active member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church. He was a volunteer, Director of Dentistry and Board member of the Caridad Center providing dental and medical services to the migrant community.
Dr. Alfele leaves his beloved wife, Patricia E. Alfele, his daughter Karen Lamagna of Boynton Beach, sons Scott (Shannon) of Hollywood, Peter (Cara) of Virginia Beach, and Michael of Wellington. He was predeceased by his brother Paul and is survived by his sister Nancy (Jim) Green, sister-in-law Judy Alfele, brother-in-law Richard Ebsary, and grandchildren Amanda Eastling, Ashley Jablonski, Olivia, Patrick, Michael, Mack, Alexander and Andrew Alfele.
A visitation will be held at Dorsey – E. Earl Smith Funeral Home on Sunday September 29, 2013, from 5:30 to 8:00pm. Funeral services will be held at St. Andrews Episcopal Church at 100 N. Palm Way, Lake Worth on Monday September 30, 2013, 10:00am.
