Fred was born on July 30, 1925 to Fred and Louise (Ventris) Wintch at their home in Manti, Utah. He passed to his reward in Heaven on September 26, 2013, with his family by his side, from Alzheimer's. He was raised during the depression in a small Utah town. His family was not well to do and all nine children had to help. He worked at various jobs including with his dad who sheared sheep for area ranchers and as far away as Idaho and Montana. In 1943, he joined the United States Navy. He served as a gunnery instructor and then on the USS Howard W. Gilmore, a submarine tender, in the Pacific Theater. Immediately after being discharged from the navy, Fred worked for the Snohomish County Treasurer and attended Everett Junior College. In 1950, he began working as a firefighter with the Everett Fire Department. Leaving there in 1962, he worked as a life insurance salesman for several years. In 1971, he moved with this family to Orcas Island where he owned and operated Eastsound Grocery, which included a meat processing operation. By 1978, he and his family returned to the Lake Stevens area where he became a real estate broker. He later moved to the Edmonds area where he continued to work as a real estate broker until his retirement in 1993. In his early life, Fred enjoyed hunting, especially with his family in the Manti, Utah area. In later years he became heavily involved in golf, making golf clubs and being a Marshall for the Gleneagle Golf course. Fred was a proud member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints (Mormon) and held a number of positions with the church during his lifetime. Dad was preceded in death by both parents; brother, John; sister, Wanda and her husband, Darrel Duncan; his sister-in-law, Enid; and his brother-in-law, Don Sandstrom. He is survived by his devoted wife, Sharon, who cared for him for the last several years during his illness; brothers, Tom, Dan (Pat) and Joe Wayne (Rose); his sisters, Carma (Joe) Barney, Alice (Neil) Christensen and Jean Sandstrom. He is also survived by his children, Dennis (Cherie) Wintch, Michael (Noreen) Wintch, Patricia (Gary) Gill, Rick, Debbie, Donna and David Wintch, Colleen (Michael) Baldwin, Karen (Brian) Tunks and Kevin (Debbie) Cooley; 18 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; and Dianne Wintch. Viewing will be on Thursday, October 3, from 1:00 p.m to 7:00 p.m. at Shaffer Shipman Funeral Home, 804 State Avenue, Marysville. Services will be held on October 4, 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day-Saints, Smokey Point Chapel, 17222 43rd Avenue NE, Arlington, WA., Reception to follow. Interment will be after the reception, at Evergreen Washelli, 11111 Aurora Avenue North, Seattle, WA 98133. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association -Western and Central Washington State Chapter, 100 West Harrison Street, N200, Seattle, WA 98119.
