Funeral services for Wilford Brant “Bud” Johnson, age 89 of Corinth, will be held Sunday, October 13, 2013, at three o’clock in the afternoon at McPeters, Inc. Funeral Directors, with Bro. Dennis Smith officiating. Burial will be in Henry Cemetery in Corinth. The family will receive friends immediately following the funeral services.
Bud, as he was affectionately known, was born April 22, 1924 in Corinth, to the late Prentiss and Nelle Johnson. He was united in marriage to Jean Taylor, who preceded him in death on May 1, 2012, after having celebrated 64 years together. Mr. Johnson served his country very honorably during World War II by serving in the Army Infantry, even being wounded during the Battle of the Bulge, earning him a Purple Heart as well as three Bronze Stars. After returning home from the war, Mr. Johnson began his almost 60 year span in the used car business, over 30 of which were spent in partnership with his brother Max. Bud had customers who purchased as many as 25 or more vehicles from him.
Mr. Johnson died Thursday evening, October 10, 2013 at The Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Dale Ables (Jess) of Corinth and Tony Johnson (Marilyn) of Newnan, GA; his sister, Wanza Gray of Corinth, and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his eldest daughter, Donna McDonald, a sister, Manelle Blackwood, and his brother, Max Johnson.
In lieu of floral tributes, the family requests that memorial contributions in memory of Bud be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (www.stjude/tribute.org) , or The Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
