Clarence Monroe Adams, 92, passed away Friday, October 18, 2013 in San Angelo. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Interment will follow at Rest-Ever Memorial Park Cemetery.
Clarence was born to H.M. and Viola Cole Adams in Franklin, Texas being the youngest of 10 children. He graduated from Franklin High School in 1941. Following graduation from Franklin High School he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942. After serving in Hawaii, Clarence was in the second wave of Americans at Iwo Jima where he remained until the Japanese surrender. He was awarded two campaign medals, a Bronze Star and a WWII Victory medal.
After being discharged he married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Petty Adams. Margaret predeceased Clarence in January 2013 having been married for 67 years.
Following his military service, Clarence earned his B.S. and M.A. in Education from Texas A&M University then joined the Bryan Independent School District where he taught math and science for 33 years, retiring in 1986. Clarence enjoyed hunting, fishing and coaching Little League baseball.
He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Bryan.
Clarence is survived by his two sons Joseph Michael and wife, Terri and James Patrick and wife, Julie, his granddaughter, Kelly Adams Byerley and husband, Matthew Byerley, and his great-granddaughter Elissa Claire Byerley and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
