Born February 24, 1922 in Blauvelt, NY, he was the son of James M. Sr., and Myrtle Marie (Capron) Freeman.
Mr. Freeman served in the U.S. Army during WWII in Special Engineering Detachment. He was a member of the research and development crew of the Manhattan Project, Los Alamos, New Mexico. It is here where he met his wife Joan V. Drury, also a member of the Manhattan Project team. They were married in Santa Fe December 19, 1945.
Following his service in the military, he went to work for Combustion Engineering and then joined GE, where he worked for over forty years, first in combustion engineering at the Lynn Riverworks facility, second in Ordinance developing missile guidance systems in Pittsfield, MA and then back to the River Works where he worked on burner designs for waste heat boilers in the Medium Steam Turbine Division in Lynn, MA. He retired from GE in 1986. After retiring from GE, he and his wife Joan moved to Walpole, NH
Throughout his life, Mr. Freeman was extremely active with the Boys Scouts of America where he served as a troop leader and as well as leadership roles within the regional scout organization. He received the Silver Beaver Award, the highest award in the scouting organization, for his years of dedication.
He was a selectman in Walpole and volunteered for various engineering projects in the community.
Mr. Freeman is survived by a son: James M. Freeman, III and his wife, Jennifer of Norcross, GA.; a daughter: Robin Greist of St. Augustine, FL; a granddaughter: Erin Rogalski of Chicago, Il; and a sister: Jeannette Woodland of Arlington, VA.
