Molenaar, Andrew C. Age 70, of Madison, CT, and New Canaan, CT, died peacefully at his Madison home on October 27, 2013. Born February 21, 1943, in Johannesburg, South Africa, he was a loving husband, dedicated father, true gentleman, and endowed with an insatiable desire to learn and live life to the fullest. Andrew received his early education in South Africa attending Marist’s Brothers High School and graduating in 1960. He worked for several years in the family business, designing and manufacturing buses. He continued with his education receiving a Bachelors of Commerce degree in 1977 and a Bachelors of Science Honors degree in 1978 both from the University of South Africa (UNISA). He then continued with a Masters Degree from the University of Witwatersand in 1979. After immigrating to the United States, he enjoyed a successful career in consulting, traveled the world, and became Partner at Coopers & Lybrand (PWC) in 2002. He then went on to receive an Architectural Engineering Degree during his retirement in 2005.
His life was filled with accomplishments both intellectually and physically. His adventurous spirit was ignited in his teens and twenties, building and racing cars. From there, he began sailing competitively in South Africa. In his later years, he found himself participating in marathons and triathlons. In retirement, he developed a love of hiking and would spend weeks at a time in the Sierra Nevada mountains in California. In 2003, he climbed Mount Whitney as well as Mount Kilimanjaro. A year later he cycled across the Unites States from California to New Hampshire. His life was truly one to be celebrated.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Pamela; his daughters, Jacqui Van Looy and Lee Ann Molenaar; three grandchildren, Mason, Tyler, and Haley Van Looy; his parents; Petrus Molenaar (age 96) and Martha Molenaar (age 94); his siblings Patricia Forster, John Molenaar, Elizabeth Catton, and Peter Molenaar.
A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, November 9, 2013, 2 pm, at The First Congregational Church of Old Lyme, 4 Lyme Street, Old Lyme, CT, 06371.
