John F. ‘Jack’ Kennedy, of Croton-on-Hudson, passed away October 31, 2013. Born on January 14, 1940 to Bernard and Rose Kennedy, Jack was a fourth generation Croton resident and attended Croton Harmon High School. A graduate of Providence College with a major in Economics, Jack served in the armed forces before becoming a systems engineer at IBM where he worked for over 30 years.
Upon his retirement from IBM, Jack remained active in the local community. He served on the Board of Trustees for the Croton Free Library as Treasurer, and was a lector at St. Augustine’s Church in Ossining. Jack was a long time supporter of Croton Little League and spent over ten years volunteering his time, holding numerous positions including coach, Head of the Major Leagues and Vice President.
He spent many of his summers in Prouts Neck, Maine, where you could find him walking the beach or sitting on the porch in his rocking chair. Jack will be remembered for his intelligence, sense of humor and inability to spell. He was an avid reader and a long time supporter of the New York Yankees.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Kathryn, his brother Peter (Marita), his children Mark, Ann (John), Jane, Paul, Lauren and Brad, and six grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Sunday November 3, 2013 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home in Croton and the funeral mass will be celebrated Monday November 4 at 10 am at St. Augustines Church in Ossining. Interment at Bethel Cemetery will follow.
Donations may be made to the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program at Phelps Hospital, Croton Little League or the Croton Free Library.
