CAROL F. BEST Beloved by many, Carol Jean Foster Best passed away peacefully at her home on October 18, 2013 with her family by her side. She was born June 10, 1932, in New Castle, PA to Gertrude and Howard Foster. As a young girl, she excelled in athletics and academics. Carol was involved in Girl Scouts and camp counseling where she developed a love of the outdoors. She graduated from New Castle Senior High School in 1950 and attended Miami University in Ohio, graduating Phi Beta Kappa with a BS in Education in 1954. She was a member of the Sigma Kappa sorority. Upon graduation, Carol and four of her college friends were recruited for teaching positions in the Riverside Unified School District in Riverside, CA. Her first job was Physical Ed teacher at Central Middle School in Riverside. Carol maintained her roots in Riverside for nearly 55 years. Carol taught at the high school level at Desert Sun School in Idyllwild, CA, as well as several other teaching positions. She attained a Master's degree in counseling from University of Redlands. She loved helping people and her natural ability led her to a real estate career in Riverside. Carol worked with many real estate colleagues before founding her own brokerage, Best Realty. She truly loved helping people find their perfect home, regardless of income, often helping the needy in the community. Carol was very active in the Riverside community participating in Chamber of Commerce, Cops and Clergy, Inland Valley Association of Realtors, and business network groups. She held many leadership positions throughout her career. Carol was active in her church, the First Church of Christ Scientist in Riverside, teaching Sunday school and having a board membership. There was no place as special as Riverside to Carol. She adored the Symphony, Riverside Community Players, Orange Blossom Festival, Mission Inn Christmas display, and sunrise services at Mt. Rubidoux. She was always proud to share the fruit from her beautiful fruit trees. She was always on the go with tennis, bowling, and bridge, and loved to travel with family and friends visiting many countries in her lifetime. Carol was loved and known for her sunny disposition, beautiful warm smile, open heart, contagious sense of humor and her integrity. Carol is survived by daughters, Jane Best Reed and Susie Best; sons Jeff Best and Glenn Best; grandchildren Kelly Reed Major and Haley Reed and Jessi Keefe; one brother Thomas Foster. and sisters-in-law Ann Foster and Nancy Best. Memorial Services will be held on November 9, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Acheson & Graham Garden of Prayer Chapel, 7944 Magnolia in Riverside.
