James Benes, 88, of Davenport, passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Home in Davenport. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, November 9, 2013 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel.
Visitation will be Friday, November 8, 2013 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM at the mortuary. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Davenport. Online condolences may be left at www.rungemortuary.com. Jim was born on September 9, 1925 in Davenport, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Benes. He served two years in World War II in a tank destroyer unit being honorably discharged in 1946. He married Dorothy Miller in June 1950 and worked at Rock Island Arsenal retiring in October 1979 after serving 31 years. He then worked part time at Compactor for 15 years retiring in 1995. Jim was active in the Boy Scouts and baseball at West End Little League. He was also a 30 year member in the Quad City Antique Car Club and participated in many Quad Cities parades with his antique cars. Jim was very proud of going on the Honor Flight in May 23, 2013.
Survivors included wife, Dorothy; sons, Denny Benes, Mark (Sharon) Benes, and Danial (Tarra) Benes; five grandchildren, Josh, Kevin, Tabitha, Maddison, and Dallas Benes; step-grandson, Travis Wall; two great grandchildren, Taylor and James; one sister, Mary Busch, Bettendorf; niece, Angela (Jason Thomas) ; several nephews and sister-in-law, Judy (Kim ) Quals.
His parents preceded him in death.
