Dorothea Rose O'Connell Brennan, 105 ½ , was welcomed home on November 5, 2013, joining her husband Andy and granddaughter Molly, along with all her 6 siblings, nieces and nephews. “Dot” was born June 10, 1908 to Thomas V. and Mary Ellen (“Molly”) Rooney O’Connell and raised in Plymouth and Kingston, Pennsylvania. Dot graduated from Bloomsburg State Teachers College and College Misericordia, and in 1936 married Andrew J. Brennan, M.D. (also of Plymouth, PA). Dr. & Mrs. Brenna spent most of their nearly 58 years of married life in Bethesda/Chevy Chase, Maryland. During World War II, while Dr. Brennan was serving overseas as a physician in the Army Air Corps, she worked in the War (Defense) Department at the Pentagon. While raising their daughters Carol & Mary Ellen, Mrs. Brennan was officer manager for her husband’s medical practice, was an active member and a President of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Montgomery County Medical Society, and later a President the Montgomery County Chapter of the then joint TB & Heart Association. She also had been active in her parish church and school having been a president of the Sodality at o Our Lady of Lourdes and a Brownie leader. She was a forming member of an investment club, and successfully managed the medical practice and home finances. With their move to Friendship Heights they joined the Church of the Little Flower parish. Daughter Carol Schmitt Effland is now of Rockledge, Florida and younger daughter Mary Ellen and Richard Offer are residents for nearly 38 years in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey. Dot has been a resident of Sunrise of Woodcliff Lake for 9 ½ years, where she passed peacefully with Mary Ellen kneeling at her bedside singing to her. Dot is survived by many grand nieces and nephews, and four of her beloved granddaughters and their husbands, Brennan & Brian Burke, Ryan & Chris Halpin, Meghan & Chris Capone, and Maureen & Keith Seluga. Dot already has three great-granddaughters and four great-grandsons. Arrangements are being handled by Becker Funeral Home. Her internment will be on Monday at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, Maryland. Her life will be celebrated this Friday, November 8th at Our Lady Mother of the Church in Woodcliff Lake, NJ with a wake beginning at 3:00pm and followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 7pm. In lieu of flowers donations would be appreciated, to The Molly Offer Memorial Scholarship Fund at Immaculate Heart Academy or your charity of choice.
