Evelyn Mae Vaughn, 89 passed away on November 7, 2013 in Visalia, California. She was born on November 2, 1924 to Hallie and Rita Coffman. She was born at home in a small farming community outside of Laton, California. She lived in the community her entire life. Evelyn was a member of the Laton Church of the Brethren, where she served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Fellowship Hostess, and a Piano Player. She had the opportunity to travel and one her more memorable trips, was to Germany where she had the privilege of attending Oberammergau. Evelyn’s life passions were her love of flowers, cats, cooking, family get-togethers and playing Rook. Her mother was an excellent cook and passed her culinary skills to her daughter. When you went to Grandma’s house for dinner, you could expect some good "home cooking." She was a woman who loved the Lord. Even in her past few weeks she would comment on how blessed she was! Evelyn and her husband; Leland grew up near each other, attended the same church and Laton High School, where she played tennis and were married on November 24, 1945. After high school she attended Beauty College.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; Henry “Hallie” & Loretta “Rita” Coffman, her husband; Leland Vaughn and daughter; Susan and her husband, Howard Brew.
Evelyn is survived by her brother; Donald and wife, Jenean Coffman of Laton, her daughters; Laurel and husband, Albert George of Woodlake, Marsha and her husband, Lloyd Fritz of Sebastopol and son; Martin and wife, Peggy Vaughn of Laton. Evelyn will always be cherished by her 9 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
We rejoice that she has joined with her family and friends and are celebrating with the Lord, but she’ll be greatly missed by her many friends and family.
The family would like to thank the staff at Magnolia Tree in Visalia for treating Evelyn with the dignity she deserved right up to her last breath. May God continue to bless your ministry of caring and service.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 15, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Laton Church of the Brethren; 3090 E. Mt. Whitney, Laton, CA 93242 559-923-4559 with Burial to follow at Oak Grove Cemetery; 19811 Cedar Avenue, Laton, CA 93242.
