A celebration of life honoring Carol Jean Russell de LaMadrid will be held Friday, November 15, 2013 at 2:30PM in the Chapel of Tyler Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Luna officiating.
Ms. de LaMadrid passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at her home in Uvalde, TX after a brief illness.
She was born on March 5, 1948, in Jacksonville, TX to J. Arnold and Doris Cook Russell. She attended Jacksonville public schools, graduating from Jacksonville High School in 1966. Carol was a cheerleader, Football Sweetheart and Miss Jacksonville High School. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1971. She enjoyed a variety of interesting jobs throughout her life including teaching in Cuernavaca, Mexico and Houston, TX, where she also worked for EDS and World Ship Supply ,Inc. While in Houston she expanded her love of operand the fine arts. Her love of dance encouraged the study of Flamenco and Ballet. She was passionate about exploring and learning about foreign countries and cultures, traveling to Russia, Cuba, Germany, Mexico, Luxembourg and Trinidad. Following retirement she resided in Uvalde, TX where she enjoyed gardening, remodeling her home and caring for her beloved dogs. She served as Secretary of the Uvalde County Democrats Club.
She was preceded in death by her father, J. Arnold Russell.
Survivors include her mother, Doris Cook Russell formerly of Tyler; sister and brother-in law, Judy and sam Chandler, and nephew, James L. Chandler all or Edmond, OK; Niece Michelle Bright of Midwest City, OK; six great nieces and nephews; numerous cousins including her beloved, Silvia Russell Wilson of Tyler and Anita Russell Mills of Corinth, TX; and devoted companion, Christian Lenzner of Uvalde, TX.
Immediately following the memorial service a visitation will be at the home of Larry and Sylvia Wilson.
