Russell was born in Atwater, Ohio on November 7, 1947 to parents Russell and Helen Pittman. Russell enjoyed a 43 year long career with East Mfg Corp in Randolph, Ohio, most recently as the Director of Facilities & Manufacturing Processes. He was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War where he was involved in flight operations at Da Nang airbase. Russell had a number of hobbies he enjoyed. During his time at Da Nang Airbase, he developed a love for flying. He later became a private pilot and very much enjoyed flying his Piper Warrior plane with his friends and family. He held multi-rated pilot licenses and was Instrument Flight Rated. He also piloted charter business flights. Russell was an adept marksman and enjoyed the shooting sports of Skeet, Trap, and Sporting Clays and over the years held a number of records. One of his biggest interests was engineering and vehicle design and currently holds numerous patents within his company.
Russell is survived by his wife of 46 years, Connie (Strong) Pittman and his sons: Dale (Julia) Pittman and Bryan (Ronda) Pittman. Surviving also is his sister Ruth Ann (Don) McDonald and his beloved dog, Cocoa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his two sisters, Carol and Leah.
Family will receive friends at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. where funeral services, officiated by Pastor David Ballert, will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow at Atwater Cemetery.
