Ovila Joseph Tetreault, Jr., 77, of Troy and Florida, died Monday evening, November 18, 2013, in the comfort of his home, with the love of his family surrounding him, following a period of declining health.
He was born in Marshfield, VT, on May 7, 1936, the son of Ovila J and Mae R (Burt) Tetreault, Sr. He grew up in and attended Marshfield and Hardwick area schools. After he finished his schooling, he worked in a couple of Vermont area mills and then took to the road, working for Arthur Whitcomb, Inc. in Keene, Webster Trucking in Brattleboro and lastly after moving to Florida, for Mid Coast Concrete out of Hudson, Florida.
Mr. Tetreault moved back to Troy and spent the last 13 years there. He was a constant tinkerer, always puttering around the house, working on this or that. If he couldn’t find a way to fix it, he pulled it apart for some future use. He enjoyed camping and was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge # 478.
He is survived by his children: Donald O. Tetreault and his wife Genia of Jemison, AL and Susan J. Tetreault of Keene; his grandchildren: Shea C., April C., Alicia M. and Lacey M. Tetreault, Andrea M. and Cara L. Pierce and Shane R. and Jason D. Colllins; six great grandchildren: Havyn M. Farnham, Skye C. Redmond, Nakaya I. Mitchell, Hunter A. and Dartanian Redmond, Titan A. Smith, Fiona Bombard, Hayden E. and Ryleigh J. Collins; one great great grandchild: Peyton C. Aspen; his longtime companion: Priscilla Purrington and her children Tammy Pearsall and husband Mike, Debbie Wilson and husband Tim, Alan Purrington and wife Diane and Lisa Hackney and husband Tim; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, step children, grandchildren, great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife Jean Hopkins who died in 2001, and his siblings: Chet, Joe, Gladys Napoleon, Alma and Cecille.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday evening, November 21, 2013, from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at the Fletcher Funeral Home. A service, celebrating Ovila’s life, will be held Friday, November 22, 2013, at 10:00 am, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the family lot at Mountain View Cemetery in Troy.
