Ettel Lloyd Hasty, age 92, of Vanduser, died Saturday, November 30, 2013, at the Missouri State Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau. Born December 26, 1920, in Monterey, Mo., to the late Herman Elzie and Fannie Fitzgerald Hasty, he was a self employed farmer his entire life. He joined the U.S. Army on September 4, 1942, serving in Casablanca, Moracco and Tenisa, Italy on the front lines. He was honorably discharged on November 18, 1945 and awarded the Good Conduct Medal and 4 Bronze Stars. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 5368 of Morley, and enjoyed country and gospel music. On January 26, 1946, in Crowder, he married Dorothy Imogene Christopher, who preceded him in death on February 5, 2009.
He was also preceded in death by one son, Noel Dean Hasty; one grandson, Todd Hasty;
two daughters-in-law, Donna Hasty and Janice Hasty; five brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include: three sons and two daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Jo Ann Hasty of Ozark, Ala., Lonnie and Brenda Hasty of Cape Girardeau, and Dennis Hasty of Sikeston; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kay and Doug Tropf of Marble Hill, Sue and Butch Watkins of Marble Hill, and Pam and Ben Easter of Vanduser; one brother and sister-in-law, Russell and Claudine Hasty of Sikeston; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Marcella and Joe Brown of Bell City and Betty and Johnnie Dixon of Sikeston. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and one great-great granchild.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. this evening at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 3, with Rev. Trish Eskew, retired pastor of the Church of God in Vanduser, officiating.
Burial will follow at 12 noon at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, with full military honors accorded him by the Missouri Military Funeral Honor Guard.
