Mr. Cope served in the Army Reserves and retired from IBM Corporation in 1993 He worked and held a variety of management positions in Huntsville, AL, Washington, DC, Virginia Beach, VA, Charlotte, NC, St. Louis, MO and Dallas TX. Following his retirement he owned a furniture refinishing business in Dallas, TX. In 1999 he and his beloved wife Kathy built their home in Denison, TX. They were active members of the Sherman Preservation League and enjoyed their retirement to the fullest by filling their free time with travelling, hosting the yearly “Camp Cope” for the grandchildren and antiquing. After Kathy’s death in 2010, Bob moved to Aldersgate CCRC in Charlotte to be closer to his daughters.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Ruth Watson Cope and brother, Harmon F. Cope, Jr.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Carolyn Cope Harte and husband, Tom; Robert D. Cope; Kathryn Cope Wood and husband Brian ; bonus daughters, Suzzanne Schloemann, Stephanie Schloemann Lange and husband Steve; sister, Jane Ann Cope; grandchildren; T. J. Harte, Brian, Kevin, Katelyn, Michael and Laura Cope; Jarrett Wood; Becky Schloemann; Michael and Jared Lange; many nieces and nephews and especially Deb and Kevin Boring; former wife and mother of their 3 children, Della Clayton Hasekamp.
A Memorial Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, December 9, 2013 at Christ United Methodist Church with Reverend Jim Humphries officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
The family deeply appreciates the care that has been provided by the Aldersgate staff, most especially his caregivers, Barbara, Billie, Ina, Mai, Nadiyah, Nedra, Shonda and Sonya. They were devoted, loving and compassionate.
