Bernice Joyce Adams age 78 of Sterling Heights, Mi passed away on December 20th, 2013. She was born on October 29, 1935 in Detroit Michigan the daughter of Francis and Evelyn (Jaquin) Bernard. Her father passed when she was a little girl and her mother remarried Thomas Garavaglia. She has one sister June and one half brother Thomas. While growing up in Detroit she enjoyed her entire summers on McDonald Island. After graduating from Denby High School she joined the Navy where she met her future husband Leonard Layton Adams. They were married June 8th 1957 and had two sons Leonard Adams Jr. (Brenda), Keith and one daughter Kimberly Spencer (Dave). She was widowed in 1963 and left to raise three young children on her own. She devoted herself to her children and was involved in all to aspects of their lives coaching sports teams, leader of their boy and girl scouts and most important to her, traveling to Pennsylvania to insure that they would know their fathers family. She accomplished this all while working full time and going to Macomb Community College and enjoying playing ball herself. She graduated with an associate’s degree in legal law. She was along time employee of Ray White Electric in St. Clair Shores where her career in the UAW started by becoming a Union Stewart, later to develop into many leader positions such as President of UAW Local 417 where she retired from as Financial Secretary. She was a board member for Coop Optical. Loved to go on annual gambling trips with her close friends and most of all she was a proud grandma to Nichole, Stephanie, Ashley and Sara. Step grandma to Jimmy. Great Grandma to Alyssa, Maria and Alena. Donations may be directed to Beaumont Health System, Heart and Vascular program. Visitation will be Friday, December 27, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Kaul Funeral Home, 28433 Jefferson Ave., St. Clair Shores. Funeral service will be in the funeral home on Saturday December 28 at 12 p.m. after two hours of visitation.
