Woodard “Woody” Prichett Weatherby, 87, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 21, 2013. Funeral Services are to be held at 3:00 Monday, December 23, 2013 at Lakeview Church of the Nazarene, 4815 Fairway Blvd., Pastor Matthew Carte officiating. Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, December 27, 2013 at Andrews Old Cemetery, Andrews, Texas. Services under the direction of Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home of Wichita Falls and McNett Funeral Home in Andrews, Texas.
Woody was born on January 29, 1926 in Ector, Texas to O. G. and Vista Weatherby. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy and served his country during World War II. In 1951, Woody earned his B.A. from Texas Tech University after which he pursued his lifelong career in the oil industry.
Woody and Betty, his wife of 62 years, resided in Lafayette, LA for 50 years. It was there that he became a lifelong member of both the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the Geological Society. He was employed by Welex, a Haliburton Co. for 40 years before retirement in 1985. He was an active member of his community and took pride in belonging to several local chapters of Young Leadership Programs such as Boy Scouts of America, as an Assistant Scout Leader and Civitan, where he served as President elect for one year. Woody loved his life serving his family and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was a Deacon at both Westside Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church in Lafayette, LA for many years.
Woody was preceded in death by his parents and a brother James Robert Weatherby of Andrews TX, who passed away just hours apart from Woody. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Betty Weatherby and his children; Rod Weatherby and wife, Andrea, Jan Fleming and husband, Chuck and Mark Weatherby and wife, Ginger; brother, Joe Kenneth Weatherby and wife, Carolyn of Andrews TX; sister-in-law, Wanda Weatherby also of Andrews; grandchildren David, Mike, John, Ryan Elizabeth, Reagan, Jordan, Zachary and Brittany.
The family wishes to thank Nurses Dane, Tony and John and all the staff at United Regional CCU for their outstanding care and love that our father and family received while he was in their care.
The family would also like to thank Lakeview Church of the Nazarene for loving us as tenderly as Jesus does.
