Mr. Hollis D. Edwards, age 89 of Potsdam, New York passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at his residence in the town of Stockholm while under the care of his family and the Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley. Upon his request there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Burial will take place in the spring. Contributions in Mr. Edwards memory can be made to Hospice. Hollis is survived by his wife Betty of Potsdam; his son Thomas “Tom” (Betsy) Edwards of Newfield, NY; daughter Lisa Miller of Newfield, NY; step daughters Kathy Bush of Parishville and Susan MacArthur of Baldwinsville, NY; 6 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and 5 step grandchildren. He is predeceased by his brothers Loren, Marlyn, Wally, Jack and Athol Edwards.
Mr. Hollis D. Edwards was born on February 8, 1924 in Norwood, New York to the late Keith and Hazel Hunter Edwards. He was a graduate of Norwood High School. He served overseas in France during WWII from 1943- 1945. Upon his honorable discharge he returned back to the States and was married to Carol Pitcher. He later married Betty Charleson Sherman in 1975 in Stockholm, NY.
Hollis worked was a personal driver for Congressman Bert Snell for several years. He worked at the Potsdam Laundry and then in the maintenance department at Clarkson University for many years until his retirement in 1990. He was a lifetime charter member of the BPOE Elks Lodge, the VFW and the American Legion in Potsdam.
