Carolyn Clark was born November 20, 1944, in Minot, North Dakota to Arnold and Helen (Josephson) Juhala. She was raised in Minot and completed high school at Minot High School. In 1962, she moved to Baltimore, MD to attend Johns Hopkins University. She later returned to Minot briefly prior to moving to Los Angeles, CA where she married William Clark on July 29, 1966 and worked in medical research. In 1970, they moved to St. Paul, MN where they began raising a family. In 1973, Carolyn and Bill moved to Litchfield, MN. In 1979, they moved their young family to Duluth where Carolyn later graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth with bachelors degrees in biology and English. She worked for ten years at the University of Minnesota Duluth, School of Medicine before returning to graduate school at the University of Wisconsin Superior. After completing a Master of Arts degree in communications, she began working at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites in sales and marketing. After 15 years with the Holiday Inn, she joined Skyline Shuttle in 2009, a business started by her son, David, where she worked in customer service and marketing until September 2013.
Carolyn was a member of Pilgrim Congregational Church. She enjoyed cooking and baking, music, reading, travel, gardening and flowers, exercising and participating in local road races as a walker, cultural and civic activities, and doting on her grandchildren.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, William of Duluth; two sons, William (Jennifer) Clark, Duluth, and David Clark, Duluth; one daughter Susan (James Walker) Clark of Atlanta, GA; four grandchildren, Nathan Clark, Chloe, Nicholas Clark and Sofia Walker; two brothers, Roland (Shirley) Juhala of Lake Sherwood, MO, John (Gerlinde) Juhala of Rockport, TX, one sister Beryl (Neil) Hultin of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister-in-law, Donna Juhala.
Memorials can be made to the Solvay Hospice House (solvayhospicehouse.org) in Duluth, MN and the ALS Association (alsa.org).
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, January 2nd at Bell Brothers Jarvi-Dowd Funeral Home, 925 E 4th St. in Duluth, and will continue from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Funeral Service, Friday, January 3rd at Pilgrim Congregational Church, 2310 E 4th St., in Duluth. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery.
