Peter Anthony Canga passed away peacefully on Dec. 26th after enjoying Christmas day with his family. He was 87 years old. He was born in New York City to Pedro and Luzmila while his father was in America on military training.
In his long life, Peter helped raise his brothers and sisters after his father died tragically while on duty. He returned to the US in 1947 and became a flier in the Army Air Corps serving for 26 years including the Berlin Airlift, the Korean War, the Cold War, and Vietnam. He attended night school while stationed in Tokyo to earn a Bachelors Degree and later became an independent businessman. His work helped rural Texas communities create transportation systems for the poor and elderly. He recently rekindled his Catholic faith and earned a 4th degree with the Knights of Columbus. Until a few months ago he taught English as a second language at St. Elizabeth Church in Pflugerville.
Peter was the last surviving member of his family from Peru. He was comforted in the knowledge that they were waiting to receive him with open arms. He leaves behind a wife Matilde, sons Michael, Peter, Garry, Carl and three grandchildren. He also leaves behind the extended family he helped sponsor to immigrate to America. His joy was his family and he enthusiastically involved himself in our hobbies and recreational activities though out his life.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Monday, December 30, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., with a rosary service at 7:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Pflugerville. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Memorial Hill Cemetery.
