Jean Fox Clippard- died December 27, 2013. Born June 29, 1927 to Mildred Cress and Edward Benedict Fox. Preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, General Bernard Cole “Buster” Clippard and by her brothers Edward Cress Fox of Santa Barbara, CA , Dr. David Benedict Fox of Memphis and Nashville, and Edward Benedict Fox, Jr., of Hot Springs, Arkansas.
She is survived by her three sons, Bernard “Scooter”, Jr. (Fran), Richard Fox (Norma) both of Nashville and Van Cress (Ann) of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren, Kathryn McClelland (Collin) of St. Louis, MO, Mary Brette, Candace, Elizabeth “Lizzy”, Van Cress, Jr., Richard Cole and Nancy Elizabeth; great-grandchildren, Pierce and Liam McClelland.
After graduating from high school in Memphis she attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.
She and Buster married July 19, 1947 at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Memphis then moved to Jackson, TN where he was in the automobile business While in Jackson she became woman’s editor of the Jackson Sun and while raising her sons, loving their activities and enjoying tennis and bridge as her past times.
In 1963 the family moved to Maryville, TN, he in the cement business and she the Woman’s editor of the Maryville Alcoa Daily Times, winning the highest award in the state for style and substance. The family spent time discovering the Smoky Mountains, camping, and hiking.
Her husband was transferred to Nashville in 1970 to become division manager of Marquette Cement Company. The family joined St. George’s Episcopal Church. Mrs. Clippard served in numerous volunteer roles including being elected to the vestry . She also volunteered time at St. Luke’s Community Center.
A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 4th, 2014 at St. George’s Episcopal Church with The Rev. Dr. Leigh Spruill officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
