He was born in New Haven, Conn., Feb. 15, 1936, son of Ferdinand and Evelyn Ahlberg.
Known as "Pop" to his family, he was dedicated to his wife and children. He served as a volunteer fireman in Bethany, Conn., and as a Boy Scout leader in Richmond. He was employed at Keene Gas Service for 35 years and then started his own successful business as an independent heating contractor. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of Keene Elks Lodge 927.
He loved spending time with his family, fishing with his sons and grandchildren and hunting with his friends Armand, Frank and Ricky. He was a dedicated Red Sox and Patriots fan and loved Pink Floyd. He was a talented furniture restorer and craftsman.
He always lent a helping hand or offered a holiday meal to anyone who needed it. He was a great friend to many and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
His beloved wife, Jean, died in January 2011.
Survivors include his children, Lisa (Ahlberg) and Brian Murray of New Durham, Melinda (Ahlberg) and Tom Scampini of Portsmouth, Ferd and Joanne Ahlberg of Strafford and Nils and Kim Ahlberg of Alstead; his grandchildren, Jackie, Pamela, Rebecca, Trevor and Jacob and Tommy and Peighton; and great-grandchildren, Skylar, Alexis and Michaela.
There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held Friday at noon at St. James Episcopal Church in Keene, with a reception to follow at the Keene Elks Lodge.
