Dewey Sullivan Shilling Jr., age 87, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 12, 2014 in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was a current resident of Evergreen Health Care in Burkburnett, Texas. Prior to his move in May of 2013 he was a life long resident of Ft. Worth, Texas.
Dewey was born May 17, 1926 in Justin,Texas to Dewey Shilling Sr. and Grace (Richman) Shilling. Dewey attended Texas A&M University on a track scholarship and served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a World War II Veteran and was decorated with the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campain Ribbon with two bronze stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star. Good Conduct Medal, Army of Occupation Ribbon (Japan), Victory Ribbon, and three overseas service bars. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a salesman for the Yellow Pages. He was a member of Sagamore Hill Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, wives Melba Shilling and Tina Shilling, a brother Don Shilling and sisters Imogene Morrow and Naomi Lay.
He is survived by a sister, Jane Hicks of Weatherford, Texas, and a Sister-In-Law Ruby Shilling of Irving, Texas. Other survivors are his niece and caretaker Deborah Smith and husband Dennis of Burkburnett, Texas, niece Susan Maples and husband Randy of Bedford, Texas. Nephews: Ted Morrow of San Antonio, Texas, Gary Morrow and wife Paula of Ft. Worth, Texas, Mike Hicks and wife Joyce, Harold Hicks and wife Tiffany of Weatherford, Texas, Tony Lay and wife Linda of Wichita Falls, Texas, Larry Shilling and wife Tonya of Irving, Texas.
