Services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, January 17th in Johnson’s Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Skip Hill officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
George was born May 23, 1930 in Pendleton, Indiana to Forrest L. and Stella (Kramer) Ballinger. He graduated from Pendleton High School in 1948 and then attended Purdue University. In 1951 he enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served for over twenty years retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant. He served in many posts around the world. His final post was at Goodfellow Air Force Base, where he served as Commandant of the NCO Academy from 1972 until his retirement in 1974.
George was married to his high school sweetheart Alice L. Allen on December 15, 1951 in Pendleton, Indiana.
After leaving the military he was co-owner of Concho Valley Refrigeration and Heating until retiring. At which time he and his wife, Alice, traveled extensively in the United States and Canada. He was a Lifetime Member of The Good Sam Club and was active in the Texas Military Retirees Chapter of the club and was also involved with the Escapee RV Club. Other organizations he belonged to were the Air Force Sergeants Association and the Heritage Chapter of the Freedom through Vigilance Association.
He is survived by his wife Alice; their children Cheryl Day of Buda, Texas, Michael Alan Ballinger and Wife Susan of Townsend, Georgia, Karen Dumas and husband Randy of San Angelo; Julie Fleet and husband Jack of Houston, Texas; eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
