George Robert “Bob” Carlstrom, Jr., of Bentonville, died January 22, 2014 at Bentonville Manor. He was born May 21, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, to George and Edith Carlstrom. He retired from the U.S. Army, where he served as a Chief Warrant Officer, W-4, in the field artillery target acquisition. He was decorated with the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnamese Gallantry Cross Medal, plus numerous other service medals. He served in the Korean War and Vietnam War, earning six bronze combat stars. He also served in Japan, England, Germany, and other places. He was also a branch manager for federal credit union and a Texas certified nurseryman professional.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite and a Shriner having served in Al Maida (El Paso) and Al Bahr (San Diego). He was a former Lions Club member in Bentonville. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Military Officers Association of America (Bella Vista Chapter), and Disabled American Veterans where he served two terms as commander for Bentonville Chapter No. 53, Arkansas. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bentonville, Arkansas.
He moved to Bentonville, from El Paso, Texas, in the year 1998. He was the loving husband and father of his survivors including his wife Sylvia Carlstrom and two sons Jorge E. Carlstrom and Edgar I. Carlstrom of the home.
A Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 28, 2014 from 10-11 at Callison-Lough Funeral Home in Bentonville with a Funeral service beginning at 11:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2014. A committal service will be at National Cemetery in Fayetteville, at 2:00 p.m. with full Military Honors.
