Raymond S. Combs, Jr., 96, of Fort Smith, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2014, in Fort Smith. He was born September 2, 1917 in Crescent Community, Sebastian County, AR. He was retired Owner/Operator of a Lumber Company. He was a member of the Fort Smith Duplicate Bridge Club in Fort Smith. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II where served as an Aviation Chief Machinist’s Mate. He was in the Battle of the Coral Sea on the USS Lexington and the Battle of Guadalcanal on the USS Hornet. Funeral service will be 1:00 PM Saturday, February 01, 2014, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial with Military Honors at Steep Hill Cemetery. He is survived by two daughters Sheila Combs Francis of Enid, OK and Denny Combs of Little Rock, AR and one granddaughter. Pall bearers will be Jim Dime, Dr. Glenn Hughes, Paul Humphrey, Phil Richmond, Rick Moore and Jim Dennis. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Fort Smith Bridge-Duplicate Club. The family will visit with friends Friday evening 6:00 PM-7:30 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Fort Smith Duplicate Bridge Club, 1810 South U, Fort Smith, AR 72901.
