Johanna P Arrimour passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family on Friday, January 31, 2014. She was 97 years of age. Born in Den Haag in The Netherlands, she was the daughter of the late William and Melicha Paul. Johanna had been a resident of Bryn Athyn, PA for the past 78 years.
Mrs. Arrimour was a homemaker and great supporter of many musical, artistic, cultural, and environmental organizations in both the Philadelphia and New York metropolitan area. She was extremely active for many years in fundraising for the Philadelphia Orchestra and avidly attended every Friday afternoon concert possible during the years when the orchestra was housed in the Academy of Music. Johanna was a very active volunteer with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Abington Art Center, the Philadelphia Art Museum, Abington Hospital’s June Fete. She also served as a docent at the Glencairn Museum in Bryn Athyn. In her later years she spent significant time knitting helmet liners to warm the heads of the US serviceman fighting in the mountains of Afghanistan. She was a congregant of the Bryn Athyn Cathedral where she was married in 1954. Her other interests included the Pennypack Trust, the Metropolitan Opera, the Opera Company of Philadelphia, the ASPCA, traveling the world and all forms of both indoor and outdoor gardening, but her focus was always on helping others and being of service to those less fortunate.
Johanna was the beloved wife of Leon Arrimour for 26 years before his death in 1981. She is survived by her daughter, Nadine and husband, Don Alexander of Harleysville; daughter Mireille and husband, Jeff Bettinger of Huntingdon Valley; and son, Mark and wife, Lynda Arrimour of Bryn Athyn. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren – Bryon and wife, Lindsay Arrimour; Lindsey Arrimour; Morgan Bettinger; Christopher Bettinger; Melissa Arrimour; Katie Arrimour; Taylor Bettinger; and a great grandson, Landon Arrimour.
Memorial services were held on Sunday, February 2nd at the Bryn Athyn Cathedral.
