Eugene “Gene” L. Collett Passed away suddenly on Saturday, February 1, 2014 in Norman at the age of 84. Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Primrose Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Norman IOOF Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Primrose Funeral Service.
Gene was a lifelong resident of Cleveland County, Oklahoma. He was born in Stella, Oklahoma on January 17, 1930 to Roy Lee and Minnie (Gill) Collett. He attended Noble High School. Gene entered the United States Air Force in 1948 as an Air Force Meteorologist. His career in the military took him to remote location in Alaska, England, Iceland and many stateside destinations. He achieved the rank of Master Technical Sergeant and retired after 20 years of service to his country. After his retirement from the military, Gene became a weatherman for KOCO (Channel 5) and an Airborne Traffic Reporter for KTOK. Gene was once recognized for assisting law enforcement with the apprehension of several individuals by tracking them from the air and reporting their position. Gene’s love of aviation lead him to develop the Hickory Hills Airpark, a residential airport community. He enjoyed living on his rural airport community with plenty of wildlife.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren and one brother, Grady K. Collett.
He is survived by his wife of almost 63 years, Helen N. Collett; son, Victor Collett and his wife Nancy; son, Stanley Collett and his wife Carol; daughter, Janean Collett all of Noble; Grandchildren Arie, Chris, Jasen, Nick, Melissa, Ryan, Kevin, Jennifer and Amanda;16 great-grandchildren and two sisters, Erma Kirby and Lawana McKinley.
