Ura Wiggers, 84, of Springfield passed away on Tuesday February 4, 2014 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Petersburg. She was born on May 22, 1929 in Springfield to Delbert H. and Wilma Musick Cooley. Ura married John Wainwright in 1949 and he preceded her in death in 1965. She then married Fred S. Wiggers in 1967 and he preceded her in death in 1996.
She is survived by her son Roger Wainwright of Chatham, her daughter Lois Pruitt of Springfield, four grandchildren: Cori (James) Porter, Scott (Bridgett) Pruitt, Megan Pruitt, and Ashlee Wainwright, and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her infant sister Norma Jean Cooley.
Ura worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation and retired in 1984 after thirty years of service. She was a member of the Springfield Chapter of the Sweet Adelines since 1965, a twenty five year member of the Flower City Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir since 1943. She enjoyed traveling overseas, going on cruises, and hosting parties and events with family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Friday February 7, 2014 at Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 Koke Mill Road. The family will meet friends from 10:00am until the time of service at the funeral home Friday. A private burial of ashes will take place at a later date at Brittin Cemetery near Cantrall.
