Michael Wilson Runkel, 54, a resident of Greensboro passed away February 11, 2014 at the Duke University Medical Center. Mr. Runkel was born June 15, 1959 in Grove City, PA, the son of Arthur W. and Carol Wheeling Runkel.
Mike was employed with T.E. Connectivity in Greensboro until his health began to decline. Mike lived his life with passionate dedication to his family, friends, and his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge #219 in Meadville, PA.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Carol W. Runkel Fritsma.
On March 28, 1997 he was married to Elizabeth Anne Sundberg who survives of the home. Surviving in addition to his wife Elizabeth are two daughters, Kristin Runkel of Greensboro, Nicole Grumling and her fiancé Erik of Randleman; two sons, Jason Runkel and wife Tiffany of Titusville, PA, Jason Grumling of Jacksonville, FL; his father, Art Runkel and step-mother, Barb of Cochranton, PA; his step-father, Don Fritsma of Palm Bay, Fl; two sisters, Sherry Maggio and husband Chris of Vienna, VA, Debbie Deroy and husband Mike of Melbourne, Fl; two brothers, Steve Runkel and his fiancé Becky Hammonds of New York City, Don Fritsma Jr and his wife Juanita of Palm Bay, Fl and four grandchildren, Xander, Gabriel, Jaxon and Kathryn.
A Service to Celebrate Mike’s life will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel conducted by the Pastor Andy Cook. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel on Saturday, Noon – 2pm.
