Sandra Folsom Kinsey, 63, passed away on February 17, 2014 in Jacksonville, Florida, from metastatic breast cancer. Ms. Kinsey was born in Ft. Lauderdale, FL on June 30, 1950, to Earl G. Folsom and Elizabeth Folsom Moyse. She received a B.A. degree from Emory University in 1972 and a M.Ed. degree from Wake Forest University in 1973. After four years as a middle school guidance counselor in Aiken, SC, she attended law school, graduating from the University of Georgia with a J.D. degree in 1980. Ms. Kinsey spent the next 25 years as an attorney in Washington, DC. During that time, she became a partner at the law firm of Hogan and Hartson (now Hogan Lovells) and spent over 12 years as an attorney at the Securities and Exchange Commission. She was particularly proud of her time at the SEC, in the Office of International Corporate Finance and the Office of the Chief Accountant.
Ms. Kinsey was diagnosed with metastatic cancer in 2003 and retired to Jacksonville, FL in 2005 to be closer to her family. During her retirement she was a volunteer with the Jacksonville Humane Society and the Pink Sisters support group at Mayo Clinic. Ms. Kinsey was predeceased by her grandparents, parents and her sister, Lynda (Folsom) Silva of Boston, MA. She is survived by her husband, Walton S. Kinsey, Jr., of Jacksonville, her hall-sister Beda Lou Hirsh of Montana, her cousin Susan Bristol of California, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from five o’clock until seven o’clock in the evening on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at The Oaklawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at ten o’clock in the morning on Friday, February 21, 2014 at The Oaklawn Chapel. Interment will be private at Culley’s Meadowwood Memorial Park in Tallahassee, Florida. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to her favorite charity, the Jacksonville Humane Society, 8464 Beach Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32216, would be greatly appreciated.
