A veteran of WWII, he was a Second Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps serving in the European Theater Air Offensive over Europe. He was a prisoner of war in Barth, Germany, Stalag Luft I.
He was of the Presbyterian faith. He was active in several churches through his life, most recently the First Presbyterian Church of Punta Gorda, and was passionate in his ministry of twenty years to those incarcerated in Charlotte County Prison.
He was Past Commander and a 65 year member of the American Legion Post 35 in Union, NJ, member of; the Bergen County 40 and 8, the American Ex Prisoners of War; the New Jersey Steamfitters and Plumbers Local 322; and the Punta Gorda Elks Lodge No 2606.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Adelaide "Rosebud" (Ellerman) Hauck. He will be greatly missed by his daughters, Arlene Berry of Florida and Gay (Bill) Grier of New Jersey; grandchildren Eric (Stacy) Grier and Audrey Grier of New Jersey; great grandchildren Layla and Vaughan Grier of New Jersey; nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are being handled by Coral Ridge Funeral Home and Cemetery in Cape Coral, Florida.
