Born in New Bedford, son of the late Alfred and Hazel (McClain) Freitas, he was a lifelong resident of the city and a graduate of New Bedford High School.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corp during Vietnam attaining the rank of Sergeant. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with palm/frame.
Mr. Freitas was employed as a postal clerk for the U.S. Postal Service for 26 years.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Sarah Sargent and her husband Richard; two grandchildren, Austin and Aaron Sargent; a sister, Ann Keeley; and a brother, Gary Freitas all of New Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.
His Funeral will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 9:30am at Our Lady’s Haven, 71 Center St., Fairhaven. Visitation will be held prior from 8-9am at the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford.
