William L. "Bill" Hager, 95, of Sherman, formerly of Tallula, passed away on Monday, March 3, 2014, at Villa Health Care East, in Sherman. Bill was born on February 8, 1919, in Springfield, the son of Karl and Gladys (Carls) Hager. Bill proudly served our country in the Army during World War II. After serving he married Marguerite Hillen on March 16, 1946. Bill farmed in the Tallula area for many years. Outside of farming Bill stayed active as a long time member of Tallula Christian Church, The Menard Co. Road Commission Zoning Board, the Tallula School Board, and a lifelong member of the American Legion and VFW. Bill enjoyed camping, fishing, and playing cards.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 68 years Marguerite, his children; Gary (Marlene) Hager of Springfield, Rita (Ren) Moore of Sherman, his grandchildren: Nikki (Jason) Burgar of Springfield, Jared (Evita) Moore of Peoria, and Darren Moore of Sherman, his great-grandchildren: Luke and Skylar Burgar of Springfield, and Savannah, Connor, and Aidan Moore of Peoria, his brother Robert (Yvonne) Hager of Ashland, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding Bill in death are his brothers; Richard Hager and Eugene Hager, his sisters: Alberta Fox, Dorothy Loeffler, and Lucille Hodges.
A funeral service officiated by Rev. Kathy Sweet with assistance from Rev. Ken Burgard will be held on Friday, March 7, 2014 at 10:30 am at Sherman United Methodist Church, 2336 E Andrew Rd. Sherman, IL 62684. The family will receive friends from 9 am until the time of services. Burial will follow services at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
