Born in Dartmouth, a son of the late Carlos and Maria Gloria (Cabral) Carreiro, he was a life-long resident of the area.
Mr. Carreiro served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was the owner and operator, along with his brother, of the former Silver Dollar Market in New Bedford for over forty years before retiring.
Louis was an avid bowler, bowling for the Mattapoisett Senior League. He also loved the Boston Red Sox, reading and gardening.
He is survived by his children, Laurie Adriance and her husband Gary of Dartmouth, Robert L. Carreiro and his companion Doreen Vieira of New Bedford; three grandchildren, Nicole Adriance of Boston, Alyssa Adriance of Providence and Kelsey Medina of New Bedford; several nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of Thelma Alves of East Freetown and the late Eddie Carreiro.
His funeral will be held Monday, March 10, 2014 at 9 AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN Home of Memorial Tribute at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth, followed by his funeral mass at 10 AM in St. Mary’s Church, 783 Dartmouth Street. Visiting hours, Sunday 2-5 PM. Burial with Military Honors will be at South Dartmouth Cemetery.
