Lydia was born and raised in Sugar Land, Texas to parents, Carlo Joseph Baggese and Lydia Marie Baggese. She was one of the “Five Queens” born to Carlo and Lydia. Lydia and her sisters, Dorcas, Carol, Marie and Julie, grew up playing in the Southern Pacific Railroad Depot in Sugar Land, under the watchful eye of their father, Southern Pacific Station Master. She graduated from Sugar Land High School in 1942 and was class secretary. She was a member of the Drum and Bugle Corp of Sugar Land High School and spent much of her time with lifelong, childhood friends, Lillian Blaschke Abbott and Gertrude Pelech Burleson. The trio remained close friends through their entire lives. Gertrude Burleson is the surviving member of the trio.
Lydia met her husband, Herbert Wayne Morgan, at a soda fountain in Sugar Land, where he was working as a soda jerk. She married Herb on March 3, 1943, and the young age of 18. She raised a son, Terry, and a daughter, Debbie, and was a wonderful wife and mother. Lydia and Herb had a large circle of friends and were members of the Sugar Land Social Club, the Cane Raisers Square Dance Club and were avid campers. They attended the Episcopal Church and were devoted to their family and friends. With her “spunky” spirit, Lydia was able to work as a bookkeeper until she was 70 years.
During the last several years of her life, Lydia lived at the Memorial Terrace Retirement Community. She developed many close friendships, including Edie Mortensen, Thelma McDaniel, Irma Buford and Lou Redick. Lydia and her friends enjoyed many wonderful years together, dining, visiting and playing games, including Dimes, Liverpool Rummy and Dominoes. Lydia’s friends were a great source of love, comfort, fun and support.
Lydia is predeceased by husband, Herbert Morgan and parents, Carlo and Lydia Baggese. All sisters, Dorcas Tovar, Carol Coleman, Marie Stratton and Juliette Rushing, passed on before Lydia. She is survived by her son, Terry Morgan, his wife, Suzann Morgan, daughter, Deborah Morgan-Hewson, her husband Alen Hewson, grandson, Terry Morgan Jr., his wife, Michelle Morgan and great grandsons, Trip and Caedmon Morgan. She is also survived by granddaughter, Shell Jenkins, her husband Kyle Jenkins and great grandson, Cully Jenkins. Lydia did not live to see her newest granddaughter, Tate Jenkins, who will become a family member in just a few weeks.
Lydia is remembered by friends and family for her love and generous heart. It was often said that “Lydia would give you the shirt off of her back.” She was a great cook, and her family remembers many wonderful hours crowded around her dinner table. Lydia was a nurturing woman and was always there to take care of family when they were ill. Friends and family remember her great sense of humor and ability to be a “good sport.” She was also a stunning beauty. She maintained that beauty until the last day of her life. Lydia will always be remembered with great love and affection. Her family would like to thank and acknowledge friends and family that have offered their love and support. In addition, the family gratefully acknowledges the tremendous support and conscientious care given to our beloved Lydia by the caretakers of Alena Gardens and the staff of Harbor Hospice during the last six months of her life. Thank you so much!
