Chick graduated from Lincoln High School, Ellwood City, PA in 1949. Afterwards to Geneva College in Beaver Falls, PA, graduating in 1955. He did graduate work and taught at Indiana University, Bloomington, IN and received his MA in English in 1959.
Deciding on teaching as a profession and wanting to move east, he became an English teacher at the Roosevelt School in Stamford, CT. His next job was at Brunswick School in Greenwich. From there he went to teach at Wilton High School in Wilton, CT. He spent the rest of his teaching career there until his retirement in 1992.
Chick’s great interest and hobby was the music of the 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s. From the age of 14, he started collecting records of the big bands and singers, especially Frank Sinatra. Later, he became the ‘go to’ person for people wanting information on the music of the era. He also enjoyed giving talks to local groups.
Gerald Warren Wilson was the youngest son of George W. and Lola McClintock Wilson. Two sisters and two brothers predeceased him. He is survived by his wife Barbara nee Roberts, and his daughter Clare Wilson both of Greenwich, CT, his sister, Sylvia Wilson of Monroeville, PA, Elaine Wilson and 11 nieces and nephews.
A memorial gathering to honor Chick’s life will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2014 from 12PM-3PM at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home – 31 Arch Street, Greenwich, CT.
