Gene graduated from Amarillo High School in 1945, knowing the importance of education; Gene went onto graduate from Randolph Macon Womens College in 1948. After college, Gene married a Naval Officer which enabled her to travel the world, while living briefly in places like Germany and Hawaii. During this time Gene started a family, and in the early 1970’s Gene and her children settled into Austin, Texas where she worked with her brothers Art and Harry Tolson at Tolson Oil Company, before starting her own Oil and Petroleum Distribution company—Hey Distributing. During Ms. Hey’s lifetime she became a Philanthropist, involved with such charities as American Heart Association, St. Jude’s Children Hospital, Randolph Macon Women’s College, and many others. In her later years she enjoyed being retired and spending time with her family and close friends.
Gene was preceded in death by her daughter Teresa Howle, her son Brad Hey and her brother Art Tolson.
Gene is survived by her brother Harry Tolson, her grandson Lance Howle, great granddaughters Gracey and Kinsey Howle, and many nieces and nephews.
A Visitation for Gene will be held from 6:00 to 8:00PM on Friday, March 21st at Cook-Walden Funeral Home (6100 N. Lamar Blvd. Austin, Texas 78752). Funeral Services will be held at 10:00AM on Saturday, March 22nd in the Colonial Chapel at Cook-Walden Funeral Home with interment to follow at Assumption Cemetery.
